Breakfast Martini: A Nice Kick to a Sunday Brunch

IMG_0234

I must say this before I begin: this drink, despite its name, is not a gateway to alcoholism. Yes it is called a Breakfast Martini but I am in no way advocating this as a morning coffee replacement. Think of it more as an accompaniment to a big Sunday brunch…at 3pm!

With that disclaimer out of the way, this cocktail is truly delicious. I followed my Diffords Guide recipe.

Here’s what you need:

1 spoon of orange marmalade (finely cut)

2 shots of London dry gin

½ shot of Cointreau triple sec

½ shot freshly squeezed lemon juice

Stir the marmalade with the gin in the base of a shaker until it is fully broken down. Pour the rest of the ingredients in. Add a good bit of ice and shake it all up. Strain the mix into a chilled martini glass. Garnish with an orange zest twist and a little corner of thin buttered toast.

This is a thoroughly refreshing, slightly orangey cocktail that’ll leave you feeling like you have marmalade to lick off your lips.

The citrus controls the burn of the gin, while the marmalade provides a hint of syrupiness. Still, this drink is no “alcho-pop.” It has bite. The Cointreau never stops fighting for attention.

Enjoy!
